![]() ![]() I'm using Pc's (and laptops) that were sold in Belgium to play a dvd that was made in the Philippines. All systems said the dvd I inserted was a blank. ![]() I tried it on different PC using Windows Vista and Windows 7. When it comes to American music DVDs that were bundled with CDs, I believe the majority were multi-region/region free like most standalone European music DVDs were. Hi all, Recently I tried to play a Pal Dvd using VLC. As a result I suspect most Americans 20 years ago had problems trying to play a region free PAL DVD despite the lack of regioning, while Europeans would have typically been able to play an NTSC DVD without any issues if it wasn't region locked. I believe a lot of DVD players sold in NTSC markets such as the US (certainly earlier models) were unable to output PAL video at all, while virtually all PAL players (along with most 1990s to present PAL TV models) can display NTSC content without any problem (and on older TVs that don't support NTSC colour, some PAL DVD players provide a PAL 60 option which is arguably the best way of watching an NTSC DVD since it outputs the superior colour provided by PAL). Select VLC for DVD Video to be open automatically when a disk is. ), search in the Dash for Details and launch it. In some cases region 1 simply won't be stated on the packaging but the code flag will still be present on the disc, while in other cases such discs will contain region flags for 2-6 but not for 1. To get VlC to launch automatically and play DVDs when inserted into the computer ( Note that VLC can not be running for this to work, and when you are done watching the movie, you have to exit it out. In the navigation panel of the Player Library, click the name of the DVD or the chapter where you want to start. If the DVD does not begin playing automatically, open Windows Media Player. There seem to be some PAL music DVDs (some early 2000s Warner ones come to mind) that seem to be coded for regions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 but not region 1. The DVD should begin playing automatically. In practice many DVD players can be easily region hacked to make them region free (I've done this to my own standalone DVD player, and on my PC have two DVD drives with one set to Region 2 and the other to Region 1), and I don't think many music DVDs took advantage of the more advanced forms of DRM found on certain newer DVDs that can affect playback on a different region drive in VLC Media Player (which doesn't honour region codes but can be affected by some of the more recent DRM that causes compatibility issues on different region drives), but I'm still curious as to why PAL music DVD releases were typically region free or multi-region while a lot of NTSC music DVDs were restricted to region 1. If you are a Windows user, Microsoft released a powerful free DVD player software tool that assists users to play DVDs on Windows 10. The VLC Player not only plays movies from the Internet, but also a movie stored on a DVD disc. In my personal experience, the majority of music related DVD releases in Europe are multi-region or region free, however based on what I've read, a lot of US music DVD releases were coded only for playback on region 1 players. GOM Player is considered one of the biggest competitors against VLC Player, with its ability to manage all media file formats with internal codecs and smooth processing over the interface.
